Tracking winners and capturing learnings

Finding a winning creative is only half the value — the other half is understanding *why* it won and making sure that insight shapes your next batch. On your Creative Roadmap, the Winner status is where proven creatives live, and paired with notes and your Insights dashboard, it becomes a system for compounding what works instead of relearning it every quarter.

Marking a creative as a winner

When a test proves out, move the card into the Winner column so it's clearly separated from creatives still in flight.

  1. Open the Creative Roadmap and find the creative that's currently in Testing.
  2. Move its card to the Winner status — drag it, use the status dropdown on the card, or select it and use a keyboard shortcut.
  3. Confirm the assignee and any details are up to date so the record is complete.
  4. Add a note capturing the result and, most importantly, your read on *why* it worked.
Move creatives to Winner only after they've earned it in Testing. Keeping the bar high means your Winner column stays a trustworthy library of proven concepts, not a wish list.

Capturing the learning, not just the result

A winner with no context is a dead end. The point isn't to know that a creative won — it's to know which hook, angle, avatar, or format made it win so you can do it again. Use the card's notes to write down the takeaway in plain language while it's fresh.

Good learnings answer questions like:

  • Which avatar and core desire did this speak to?
  • What hook or opening did the creative lead with?
  • Which marketing angle carried the message?
  • What ad type and format was it — UGC, static, founder story, testimonial?
  • What's the single sentence you'd tell an editor to reproduce this?

Those fields aren't arbitrary — they mirror the structure of a creative brief, which is exactly what makes learnings reusable. When your takeaway is written in the same language as a brief, spinning up the next iteration is almost mechanical.

Turning a winner into your next brief

The fastest way to act on a learning is to brief a variation. Because you captured the winning avatar, hook, and angle, you can create a new brief that holds the winning elements constant and changes one variable — a new hook on the same angle, or the same hook aimed at a sub-avatar. That's how a single winner becomes a family of tested creatives instead of a one-off.

  1. From the winning card's notes, identify the one element you want to keep and the one you want to vary.
  2. Start a new brief and carry over the proven avatar, core desire, and angle.
  3. Change a single variable — the hook, the format, or the awareness level — so the next test is a clean read.
  4. Add the new creative to the roadmap in Needs brief or Working and let the cycle continue.

Reading winners in aggregate with Insights

Individual cards tell you about one creative; Insights tells you about your program. There you can see your win rate, total winners, how many creatives you've tested, and per-member stats across a date range. Use it to spot patterns your card notes hint at — maybe one avatar quietly drives most of your winners, or one editor has an unusually high hit rate worth learning from.

  • Track win rate over time to see whether your creative strategy is actually improving
  • Compare tested vs. winner counts to gauge how efficient your testing is
  • Use date ranges to review a launch window or a quarter
  • Export to CSV when you want to share results in a wider report or slice the data yourself
Pro tip: run a monthly winners review. Filter the roadmap to the Winner column, read the notes end to end, and write down the two or three patterns you see. That short ritual is where a testing program turns into a real point of view.
