Why is one successful delivery not enough?

Parcel networks can expose a package to multiple hazards. For liquids, define any seepage as a failure unless a different tolerance has a legitimate, documented basis. For multipiece products, confirm that parts remain secured and cannot collide. Do not let “the item still works” override damage to a presentation box that your creative treats as part of the offer.

Spread orders across more than one recipient and, where practical, different regions, order times, or packing shifts. Each parcel must be a fresh unit. Do not repeatedly ship one increasingly damaged carton and count each trip as an independent observation.

Before opening, photograph the parcel at the delivery location and capture all sides, corners, seams, labels, and visible damage. Keep any comparison repeatable: record the package version, mass, orientation, handling action, duration, load, sequence, and deviations. The purpose is to find obvious weaknesses or compare a proposed correction with the original design.

Do not copy an isolated drop height from an ISTA document, omit other required blocks, and describe the result as an ISTA pass. Formal procedures depend on package characteristics and distribution method, and certification requires the applicable procedure to be conducted without reducing levels, changing sequence, or omitting required elements at a currently certified laboratory.

Do not improvise destructive handling tests for lithium-battery products. PHMSA warns that lithium batteries can overheat or ignite when damaged, short-circuited, or improperly packaged, and their transport is subject to applicable hazardous-material requirements.

ISTA categorizes 1-Series procedures as screening tests and 3-Series procedures as general simulations for shipment hazards. A qualified laboratory can select and perform the applicable procedure without the shortcuts that invalidate a formal result.

FedEx also operates a packaging lab program for eligible business account holders. Its published instructions say basic parcel distribution testing may be provided without a testing charge, while the shipper pays to send samples. FedEx states that passing represents its normal operating environment but does not guarantee against damage or loss.

If a video reasonably communicates that customers normally receive a pristine gift box, your evidence should support that delivery impression—not merely show that one hand-selected sample looked good.

If all test parcels pass, approve filming against the frozen version. If only defined outer-shipper wear occurs, you may film the protected presentation but should avoid implying that the shipping carton always arrives cosmetically perfect.
